Subject: Re: Compounding Flagyl

Thanks for all the posts. I had searched the archive
before I posted, but I guess I needed the word
"compounding" to come up with the stuff I needed.

It is confirmed that they all have Giardia, from each
one giving 2 fresh stool samples on the spot, and
seeing 3 different vets for each one. They all had
the classic signs of clear, mucousy diarrhea that
accompanies this parasite. From the vets I heard it
is very common in Colorado, as they treat dogs, cats
and any other animal that can catch it on a routine
basis.

I got a call back from the vet with the x-rays he took
on my oldest who couldn't keep the Flagyl down. They
think he has a blockage of some sort and are operating
today. I guess that was mainly the problem of him
keeping the meds down. He has never vomitted before
this, so the blockage has to be relatively new.
Though I could see how nasty the Flagyl was that maybe
he ate something he shouldn't just to get the taste
out of his mouth. I hadn't been giving them their
laxative recently because I heard giving it too soon
after the meds will flush it too quickly out of their
system. So how soon can I give the laxative to them
after the meds?

I've never had to care for after-blockage surgery (or
any other surgery for that matter). Is there anything
I need to know? I know he needs a low-cut litter box
so he can easily get in an out of. I will separate
him from his rowdy brothers and put him in his own
room with no ramps or climbing things so he doesn't
fall and hurt himself. Gerber Chicken Food is all
ready for him, as well as mama's lap and attention.

Thanks for your responses in advance. Sorry for all
the trouble I've put you through.

Kelley and Castor
