Subject: Putting on weight

I wont start a debate about foods and nutrition, but
think about what you are feeding your ferret. What they
like and what may make them fat is not what is the best
for them. High protein doesn't equal animal protein or meat.

They are obligate carnivores, the amount of protein in their
diet is higher than required for cats, and the main source
of protein should be from animal meat, not corn or rice, or
other grain. They can't digest carbohydrates well, and
sugars are very hard on their system, yes, they will learn but
for what price?

If the food's first few ingredients are not animal meat I
would
reconsider the food, and ferrets are not cats, so maybe
stick with a well respected ferret food. They don't eat much,
so price isn't usually an issue unless you have many ferrets.
If the ferret is doing well on the food he/she is on and
older I am not saying change it at any price, just saying to
look into what you are feeding your pets, the same as what
you would do for yourself or your children.

If you have a kit expose him to many different kibble and
meats
so he won't be ingrained on one, and get a picky eater.

Hi there fellow ferret lover,

Keep your ferret on a high protein diet, we use purina one
kitten chow and it bulks them up. I know a lot of people
swear by ferret food, but I've been a mom of ferrets since
1985 and I have never had them on a ferret kibble. And it
is so much cheaper. You can also supplement with Ensure.
Vanilla flavor seems to work the best.
