Subject: Re: Canine teeth puncturing mouth

Beasley had a snaggletooth in his lower jaw. The lower left canine
stuck out slightly and a small pocket developed in his upper, inner
lip. He had this when we rescued him and he lived with it his entire
life with no apparent problems. We frequently examined his upper
lip, but it never even became red from irritation. It really did not
seem to bother him, so we left well enough alone.

Yours sounds a bit worse than this. I would be very concerned about
pulling a lower canine as I understand there's some risk of the jaw
breaking in the process. The upper has its own risks associated with
removal.

caused his left lower canine and right upper canine to grown into his
mouth and puncture significant holes. I took him to my vet, she put
him on an antibiotic to prevent infections and called another vet who
specializes in animal dental problems. Here are my options: 1)
pulling the teeth, 2) putting pulp caps on the teeth, or 3)
orthodontics.
