Subject: Drug treatments for insulinoma (question)
I have an altered male ferret, approximately five years of age, being
treated for insulinoma. He is on Prednisone, 1mg/lb twice a day. In
the past two weeks he's had three episodes of low blood glucose, the
one today being the worst at 26. The Prednisone doesn't seem to be
keeping him stable on its own. We are looking into trying Proglycem
(diazoxide) if we can find it. Also, my vet was interested in the
possibility of using Megase (megestrol acetate) to control the
insulin levels. What contraindictions, if any, are there regarding
the use of Megase in ferrets? And if it can be used, what would be
the proper dosage?
Any information would be greatly apprectiated.
