Yes! Good old fashioned times-out!

We even had one who was very intellectually challenged -- I don't
mean just slow but very challenged one who also had many
deformities and health problems. It took a very long while for her
but it worked, and once she caught on she would give HERSELF
times out. If she got too excited, she would get a sheepish look
on her face, walk off a bit, turn away from the excitement, lie
down and give herself a few minutes to compose herself. It was
very darling.
