Subject: Good news and bad

There's been some talk about ascites and when I read it I
thought 'this is what Garf has'. I found out about
cardiomyopathy and downloaded a stack of information. At the
vet yesterday, we found out that Garf is FAT! How relieved we
were! His heart and lungs are wonderful. The bad news is
that he reacted very badly to the rabies shot. Garf had to
have an I.V. and several shots before he was okay...we spent
the afternoon and evening at the vet. Okay, I can see getting
a distemper shot....I'm around other people's dogs all the
time. It's possible for me to carry the distemper virus home.
But what about rabies--which is what the vet thinks he
reacted to. Our ferrets live inside. How could they possibly
get rabies? In Michigan the reason we get the rabies
vaccination is because, if a ferret bites someone, and if you
have proof of a rabies vaccination, supposedly no one takes
your ferret away. But I'm not doing it again. I just won't
let anyone handle my ferrets. Even the vet said that it's too
dangerous.
