Subject: Conjunctivitis Questions

My ferret, Buster, has developed a red, squinty eye. There is a fair
amount of greenish mucusy discharge. Currently, I am treating with
triple antibiotic ointment, prescribed by my vet. She said that he
has conjunctivitis. She did an eye exam but said that there seemed
to be no damage to the cornea, no scratches or injuries. He seemed
to be fine otherwise, that was Wednesday. Today, Friday, he began to
sneeze or cough a little. He seems active and is eating and
drinking. I started feeding him soup today to be sure he is eating
enough. Only one eye seems to be affected, the other eye is fine.
His cagemate, Milos, and his housemate (in a separate cage), Fitz,
both seem to be fine. Is it normal for only one eye to be involved?
Am I using the right medication (neomycin, bacitracin, polymyxin)?
Should I be worried about the sneezing/coughing? Is his
conjunctivitis contagious to the others or me? I have an itchy eye
but it could all be in my head, no pun intended. Please, any advice
is always appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Erica
