Subject: Tumor in her throat
Hi group,
We have a recently surrendered 1-2 yrs. old female who has a growth
of some sort in her throat. She wheezes during normal activity but
goes into a coughing fit when she gets exited. She eats, poops and
in all other respects seems normal.
Mark, my shelter partner, took her to his vet first and his vet
decided that there were too many risks involved to try to even get a
tissue sample. He tried to intubate her after putting her under just
a little and every time she relaxed her throat closed up...and she
couldn't breathe. The feeling now is that if we try to take a sample
to find out what it is or to go in looking for it that she'll either
stop breathing during the procedure or her throat will swell as a
result of the procedure...either way she won't be able to breathe.
We then took her to my vet who has cryo equipment thinking maybe we
could freeze whatever it is and reduce the risk of swelling. She'd
still have be asleep so that threat is still there however.
We were thinking of putting in a tract tube so we can at least start
looking for the growth but that's something neither of our vets has
ever done and they're both a little apprehensive about the
procedure. So, if anyone has any suggestions for helping this little
one we'd really appreciate hearing them.
On a lighter note, Mark and I enjoyed meeting everyone at the
symposium...it was a wonderful experience. And thank you to all the
presenters.
