Subject: newcomer needs meds info--vet has none

I recently took 3 of my kids in for check-ups, shots,
and health concerns. I learned that my intact male,
Fred (approximately 8 yrs old), has insulinoma and my
fixed male, Bert (9 yrs in a week) has adrenal
disease. Neither was a surprise, but I wanted to know
for certain and find out what our options were. Our
vet did not suggest any sort of medication for either
of them. He said surgery is an option for Bert, but
didn't reccommed it at his ripe old age. He said he
wouldn't do surgery on Fred because he barely came to
after drawing blood. I can agree with not doing
surgery, but all he said I could do was give Nutrical
or Karo syrup to Fred and that Bert was pretty much a
lost cause. He never mentioned any medications that
could make them more comfortable or help the symptoms
of these diseases.
Bert is now having toilet troubles. He wakes up all
the time tries to go, but nothing comes out most of
the time. Sometimes he even cries when he is trying
to go. He doesn't even try to make it to the litter
box anymore (he is the one who ALWAYS used it when he
was healthy). I want to take him tomorrow to find out
why he is having this problems and I like to go with
more knowledge than the last time.
What I need to know is this: What are these
medications for Adrenal and insulinoma. What should I
be asking for and expecting from my vet. I know my
boys are old, but I think they have a lot of life left
in them. They are still active and playful. I don't
want to just watch them go downhill and be
uncomfortable if they don't have to be. I want to
improve their quality of life as much as they do for
me. I'd really appreciate ANY input from anyone!!!

Waiting hopefully in Wisconsin!!!
