Subject: Stiff Ferret
Does anyone have an explanation for a 2 1/2 year old male ferret who
acts like he has arthritis? He is very stiff and can't bring his
hind leg all the way up to scratch his ear. He is not a slinky
pliable little guy like ferrets should be. In fact, when I hold him,
he always brings his legs up to his chest and tightens up. He has
never just dangled.
He is also losing his hair. He is adrenal disease negative and was,
therefore, suspect flea alergy dermatitis. After one full year of
Advantage flea control for all and diligent environment treatments,
the fleas disappeared and he did not respond.
He was seen by his vet for all of the above (the adrenal test was
acutally done twice - both negative). She has been at a loss for a
conclusion. He doesn't seem unhappy or uncomfortable, just very
stiff.
Thanks - I welcome any thoughts.
