Subject: Re: euthanasia

What a heart-wrenching experience that must have been. I can't even
imagine how something like that could happen.

I've been through euthanasia more times than I care to think about.
I always insist that my ferret is heavily tranquilized first. This
is done sub-q so there's usually no discomfort for this first shot. I
even insisted that Beasley, who already had an IV in him, and it
probably would have been painless and quick to just inject into that,
be tranquilized first.

Several of mine have gotten the injection directly into their heart.
It sounds terrible, but heavily sedated, there is no reaction
whatsoever and it is quick. I really don't like this method and will
definitely be discussing other ways the next time around.
