you so much for your response. Kira looked better when I went home
this past weekend. Her little belly is starting to come back.
They'll both be back with me very soon, around the time when their
annual vists come up, and I plan on having them both completely
checked out. I haven't had any blood work done on Kira yet, but will
very soon. Has anyone done the pet insurance thing yet? If so, has
it worked the way they say and are you satisfied with it? I've been
looking into that lately.

Hi Keldah,

First of all, my BF was so excited to see a ferret with the name
Goku! I'm surprised he doesn't make me get another one just so he
came name it that! :P

The real reason I'm writing is to let you know about my experiences
with the Pet Insurance. When I signed up for it last year, most of
my ferrets already had pre-existing conditions that would not be
covered. I signed up my little barely one year old PV girl, Amira,
who didn't have any pre-existing conditions. She ended up having a
bilateral adrenalectomy shortly after being placed on the insurance.
I submitted the claim to the insurance in early October. I just
heard back at the end of January (over THREE months!) that they will
NOT cover her surgery because in their opinion (apparently the only
opinion that matters), her condition was pre-existing. So that was
$757 they would not reimburse me for. My honest opinion? Save your
money, your time and the hassle and just tuck a little cash away each
month. The insurance doesn't cover general visits, vaccinations,
spays and neuters or anything pre-existing. You'll pay $13 a month
for the insurance. There's no guarantee they'll reimburse you even
if your ferret has nothing wrong to begin with. (As seen in Amira's
case.) Instead of paying them, I'd suggest paying yourself $xx a
month to a savings account for them. VPI was a waste of my time and
money and DEFINITELY a good source of frustration! I hope others
have had more successful experiences.

My best wishes to Kira and Goku! Please tell them they have fans in
Ohio! :)

Sincerely,
Erin Simkins
