Subject: Please Help Naomi

Hi Group,

We have a surrendered 1-2 yr. old female, Naomi, who has some sort of
growth in her throat. She wheezes during normal activity and goes
into a coughing fit when she gets existed. In all other respects,
however, she's fine. She eats, poops and appears to be a
pretty "normal" fuzzie.

Mark's vet, Dr. XXXXX , tried to look down her throat by putting her
under and intubating her. As soon as she relaxed her throat closed
and she couldn't breathe. Dr. XXXXX said he didn't want to do
surgery because either she'd stop breathing when she was under or the
swelling post-surgery would close off her throat so she couldn't
breathe. He said that maybe we could put in a tracheal tube to help
her breathe but he'd never done one on a ferret before and was not
ready to try it unless all other avenues had been explored.

Then we took her to my vet, Dr. YYYYY , and he pretty much agreed with
everything Dr. XXXXX said. There is one other ferret-knowledgeable
vet in Alabama that we're going to contact, Dr. ZZZZZZ in
Birmingham, but we'd like to get as much input as we can before we
make our next decision about what to do for her.

Has anyone ever had this situation before? We're hoping that we can
find a way to keep her breathing while we're trying to get to the
problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Judy Wallace
