Subject: Insulinoma surgery

I just want to thank everyone for there efforts the last time I
posted about insulinoma. My vet and myself learned so much thanks
to all of you. My next question is this. My Bria is eight years
old now. She definitely has insulinoma, but we are really in
turmoil over surgery or not. To get to the point of this question,
if the insulinomas are so microscopic and you remove part of the
gland, how do you know if you have gotten all of the insulinoma if
they are so tiny you cannot usually see them or palpate them? I
have Bria on pediapred now and she is responding wonderfully to the
medicine. Surgery is the question with her, especially when she is
having such a wonderful response to the medicine. I want to do the
best thing I can for Bria as she is just an amazing ferret and only
deserves the best of the best. How long can she survive on the
pediapred? I hope someone can shed some light on this question that
will lead me to the correct decision as to whether or not she should
have the surgery.
Sincerely, Tina McFeaters
