Subject: Re: Re: Insulinoma surgery

I am not a vet, but a shelter. I've done insulinoma surgeries on ferrets as
old as almost 8. Dijon was 3 months shy of being 8 years old when I had her
surgery done - a partial pancreototomy and it gave us invaluable information
about her condition (biopsied and sent away the removed portion). She not
only had the typical islet cell tumors but another, more insidious disease:
exocrine pancreatic cancer. That diagnosis gave us the tools to better manage
her disease.

She is no longer with us - but I believe that because of the surgery and the
biopsy, we were able to give her quality of life beyond what she would have
had with just medically treating her condition.

I am inarguably, pro-surgery unless there are reasons to remove that tool
from the treatment. I always think surgery first...
