Benita,

Just found a bit of info, but it is about a strain that rabbits get:
enrofloxacin or chloramphenicol are used for 2 to 3 months, sometimes
with ciprofloxacin ophthalmic. I checked in Karen Purcell's book and
each of those meds is also at times used in ferrets for other
problems. I do NOT know if the strain that the ferrets have is the
same one, esp. because this is the first mention I have heard of
ferrets getting it. The stuff about the rabbit strain is in the
Quesenberry and Hillyer's text.

This could be an entirely different strain, so this might have no
bearing at all, but I simply just can't find any mention of this
bacterium in ferrets.
