Subject: Abdomen swelling

Hi Everyone,
I live in the UK and have 5 ferrets. Lily is almost 8 months old. She was
spayed on 10th Jan and there were no problems with surgery, or afterwards.
She has always been very healthy.
About a week ago, I thought that her stomach was slightly swolen, but
thought that maybe she had eaten more than normal and wasn't too concerned.
However, this evening, when lifting her out of her cage, she felt rather
heavy and plump - - she has always been a slender little girl! I felt her
abdomen and there is definitely a swelling from the middle of her abdomen,
leading round to the right hand side. The right hand side feels hard and if
you hold her up and let her body dangle, you can actually see that the right
side of her stomach/abdomen is swolen, without having to feel it.
She is eating fine and playing with her sisters as normal.
I rang the vets and have an appointment for Monday morning, but wondered if
anyone here might have any clues about what this might be?

Could this be an enlarged spleen -- bearing in mind, that the swelling is
visable, without even feeling it?

Is there a possibility of an infection after her spay - even though she was
given an antibiotic injection immediately after the spay?

Many thanks
Carol
