Subject: Rectum prolapsing?
We brought our new 4 month old male to the vet last night
because it appeared that his rectum was prolapsing. It was
mainly on one side and started as just a pale pink lump, later
it got bigger and was very red. It is protruding less than a
centimeter. He was having difficulty eliminating and was
dragging his behind all over the livingroom. The vet took rads
and said she didn't think there was an obstruction, and sent
us home with a steroid cream. She suggested using a cold
compress and this cream to reduce the swelling. It's worse
this morning and oozing a little seruminous blood. It's
obviously painful for him and he had more than the usual
number of poops last night and they are all really thin. This
had a very sudden onset, within an hour or two. The vet
couldn't give us any explanation as to what would cause this
and I am worried there may be something there that didn't show
up on the rad.
Has anyone seen this before? Do you know what might bring
something like this on? His poops were normal before this
happened, and are normal in consistency now, just thin.
