Subject: Rectum prolapsing? NO! Anal gland abscess!

Tonight the rectal mass had the look of a pus filled abscess.
It was protruding about 1.5cm, and it just ruptured a few
minutes ago with the odor of anal glands! He was sold to me as
a neutered, descented ferret so I am assuming that part of the
gland had been left after the descenting. He appears to feel
MUCH better now and was dancing all through the hall. Not a
lot of pus came out though, so I am worried that it all may
not have been released into his colon. I will watch him
through the night and tomorrow and get him to his appointment
with a ferret specialist Monday.

I believe he brought ECE home to my 2 year old as well, She
seems to be handling it fairly well (we're on day 5 of
diarrhea) and yesterday had normal bowel movements, back to
diarrhea again today. ECE is diagnosed through exclusion I
believe, is that right?

If you can believe it, these problems came right on the tail
of having my 2 oldest ferrets put down, one for lymphoma in
January, and the other for a combination of things including
infectious peritonitis a week and a half ago.

I am planning to confront the store with both of these issues
(ECE and gland). I believe that someone other than me should
pay to have the remnant of the anal gland taken out. His
health warranty was sketchy (through Marshalls, not the pet
store) so I do hope I don't get too much trouble with this.
Anyone had to do this before?

I feel much better now (I bet he does too)!
Maybe I can get some studying done tonight afterall!
