About 14 months ago we lost a little elderly girl to a malignancy affecting her spinal cord. In her case (different problem) both Prednisone and an opiate helped her have quality of life. The opiate did NOT make her tired; instead, it gave her a real life back and we are so happy that she could have it.
The amount was tiny, of course, and when she was gone we had to return the bit left, plus, we could only get it in tiny quantities. Those rules are fine because the vets have to account for those types of meds.
