Subject: RE: UPDATE newcomer needs meds info--vet has none

Thanks so much for the feedback about adrenal and insulinoma.
Further testing by a new and improved vet finds out that Bert has
both, not just adrenal.
As for diagnosis and treatment...both of my boys are on 1/2 cc
Pediapred now. They are taking chromiun picolate with it
(recommended by a vet she knows). She took a urine sample from Bert
and said it was full of bacteria so she put him on .2 cc Clavamox
for infection. He also takes .2 cc Benadryl for itching. After
doing research that night she found that an enlarged prostate is
most likely the reason for his urinary problems, which is exactly
what you guys told me. She said to find out for sure he would need
a $250 ultrasound done and then surgery, price unknown at this
point. I told her about the medication mentioned on here and she
said she would try to find out the correct dosage, but hasn't had
any luck yet. She also said the only place she has found to get
Lupron from is $200. Does this sound right to you guys?
Because he is 9 years old already, I have a hard time justifying
surgery. I'm not sure that he would even make it through it. At
this point he is still very friendly and playful, eats and drinks
well, and seems generally ok. I can't afford sugery for both
diseases and it seems pointless to do one without the other. I'm
hoping we can just get him medicated enough to fix his bathroom
problems and imporve the quality of the rest of his time with us.
Pediapred seems to be helping Fred somewhat. He hasn't zoned out or
drooled or trembled in 3 days, but he does seem to be sleeping more.
Playtime for him is lasting a bit longer and is more active play
before he goes to sleep, but not by a whole lot. I hope for
continued improvement.
As always--any feedback is much appreciated!!
