Subject: Re: ferret with mild adrenal disease

Hello-

I am sorry your ferret is not welland has adrenal disease . I tried to
reply to the listed address in your post - but it bounced back, there for I
am posting to thisd list.
First of all I am NOT a vet - BUT as a shelter person have worked with MANY
adrenal affected ferrets... these are my thoughts on your mild adrenal ferret:

There is no such thing in my mind as a mild adrenal- a ferret can be
adrenal with no signs on the U Tenn panel! A ferret can even be adrenal
with no hair loss--

The lysodren is not an effective means of treating adrenal disease- it
works for cushings in dogs-- but adrenal disease in ferrets is much
different than cushings disease in dogs. Please look for a more ferret
knowledgeable vet- Please search the FHL archives you will find a large
amount of information there!

BTW I believe before you can do surgery the ferret needs to be off
lysodren for 30 days ( I was told lysodren will make the affected gland un
recognizeable? vets on this list may be able to comment more fully.-- it
needs to be weaned off the lysodren as well --
