Subject: Re: new member-mystery ferret!

Hello Jennifer,
By now you have probably taken your ferret back to
the vet., however I did want to give you some advice
if it will help?
Your vet has given you the protocol for
Heliocobactor-flagyll, amoxi and pepto and for sure
you should be giving her the BABY FOOD, if that is the
problem a bland diet is neccessary and small meals
given often is the key! No matter how much medicine or
what you give to a ferret, it will not help unless she
is eating and the babyfood will certainly help with
the weight problem and with her digestion! Her kibble
will not and will aggravate the condition!
If she is grinding her teeth then maybe she has
already developed ulcers and you will need to give her
CARAFATE before her meals-about 20 mins before- to
coat the stomach, then she will feel more inclined to
eat and not be in pain!
As far as playing, if you don't feel well, would
you want to play! That should not be a concern, but
rather getting her to eat is imperative! Also if your
other ferret had adrenal surgery, should he be playing
so soon? Has he had chance to heal?
Since he was at the vet's office, he could
possibly have picked up the ECE virus and brought it
home also, it has happened many times in the past! Was
her blood glucose run after a fast to make sure her
glucose is not too low?
Hopefully you have had some help with this
problem, but it really concerns me that she is not
eating, so try to address that quickly---Angela.
