Subject: Vets- Treatment protocol for vaccine reaction wanted
My ferrets are going to be vaccinated against distemper this week. Here in
Britain we don't have a distemper only vaccine for ferrets, I used to use a
distemper/ parvo vaccine but that one is not made anymore. Now I have to
use one that is called Nobivac DHPPI so of course I'm scared having to use a
combined vaccine...
I was just wondering what to do if things go wrong. Would it be a good idea
to pre-treat with an antihistamine? What about pre-treating with steroids?
Can you give prednisolone, if so, what dose? What should my vet do if a
ferret has a severe reaction? What drug do you try first? I'd just like to
know everything my vet should or could do if we had a reaction...
I've been going through the archives and searched them and I did found some
drugs that can be used in case of an adverse reaction but it didn't say the
dose. I'd just like to know what my vet should do if a ferret started to
vomit and had bloody diarrhoea and breathing problems... Just a list of
possible drugs and their dosage...
Best wishes
