Subject: ECE Question

I have a question(s) regarding ECE. I have read everythng that I could get
my hands
on, including the FAQ about ECE. From what I understand, ECE is generally
not
fatal, if treated. However, I have lost eight ferret to the disease. My
vet. and I have
tried everything that we could and only one ferret has survived. My vet. had
the Idex
Lab perform an autopsy in order to confirm the diagnosis. My ferrets have
not had
the green slimies, but have had diarhea. They have all had rear leg
weakness, some
dehydration, and what seemed to be maybe spastic colitis. It has taken
between
hours to four days after symptoms surface, for the kids to die. My house is
brand
new, but I'm in the process of tearing out the carpet and replacing it with
something
that can be disinfected better. The deaths seem to have stopped as quickly
as they
started, but I would appreciate any ideas to help prevent this in the future.
I have had
ferrets for twenty plus years and have never seen or heard of such a thing
happening.
Thank you in advance for the suggestions and ideas. Nancy and the Ferretkids
