Subject: Extremly high ALT - Any suggestions?
To all attending Veterinarians and other experts and experienced people:
I have a 5.5yr old female, weighing 1.7 pd. On 1/23/02, diagnosed with
Insulinoma and prescribed Pred 0.15cc twice a day and Proglycem 0.10cc, twice
a day along with 3 tsps. of duck soup mixed with A/D. Besides that a normal
ferret, normal stools, good activity.
This Monday morning took her into the clinic because she was lethargic, I
was suspecting a glucose drop. After running bloodwork, here are the results,
CBC is still pending:
ALT: 583
BUN: 44
Albumin: 2.62
Alk Phos: 57
Glucose: 112
NA: 140
K: 4.1
Cl: 118
Hct: 44%
HBg: 14
Sounds like a liver problem but no official diagnosis was given to me
except to begin 0.20cc of Clavamox and Flagyl twice a day. As of this
morning, she is passing urine and stool, but the stools are much smaller.
What are the possibilities of Pred or Proglycem elevating the ALT to this
level? Another twist to this situation is that her cagemate, a 5.5 yr old
male, also diagnosed with Insulinoma in Dec 2001, was at the clinic on
2/11/02 for abdominal swelling. ALT: 82, AlkPhos:100, BUN: 35.5, Glucose 82.
All other values normal.
I would appreciate any recommendations or thoughts.
Sincerely,
Barbara
