Go to a health food store and buy essential oils of fruits, culinary
herbs, and edible flowers like roses. You cna use those oils to
mark furniture and walls at ferret height. They seem to know the
smells for about 2 weeks -- longer then we sense them. Not
only do the scents prevent them from bumping into things, but
they can tell direction if you use different scents for different
areas. We normally use a range throughout the place: two in
most rooms -- one on each side with each room having different
scents, and one of each hallway or alcove -- again different
scents from other areas.

If there is partial sight then lights that be safely put on floors help
as well.

Vibration can be useful -- floor thumping for attention, etc.
