Thanks for the reinforcement. I can deal with a few months and help him
to unlearn the behavior. I wasn't sure that a male ferret would be as
hormonal as a female. Bandit was a give away from a friend of my
mother's whose daughter was going away to college, so I didn't get any
paperwork or history other than a verbal that all his shots were up to
date and he's never been sick. He is so happy to be with me and my
little group of six, that he has indeed never been sick and always has
seemed so happy to be with other ferrets as he was the only ferret at
his previous home.

I was just scared that maybe something was missed and I put him through
the surgery without being successful in "curing" him.

Would a shot of Lupron help him or would that be over doing it?

The mounting behavior is caused by hormones, but after
a while, it becomes a learned behavior that has to be
"unlearned" -- it took Mishka 6 months to stop
harranguing the girls after he was neutered (late
neuter - 18 months), and in that case, the "source"
was also removed immediately, but it just took a
while. It does take a while for the hormones to calm
down -- with people on hormones, it takes 1 - 3 months
for the levels to stabilize (like with birth control
pills) -- it's like they have their own agenda!
Best of luck - hang in there
Melissa
