Hi, Jen,
Ryo-Ohki had an abscessed anal gland remnant when she was a year old.
Our vet made a circular incision to drain the abcess but did not go
poking around for whatever was left of her anal gland. He simply felt
he wouldn't find it, or else he would do more harm than good. He
expected that it would abcess again at some point later on. It never
did during Ryo's lifetime. (She only lived to be 3½.)
