Subject: Phoibos has died/pyloric stenosis
Phoibos, the hob that developed a testicular hydrocele which I have
posted about previously, unexpectedly died two days ago.
His surgery in January to correct the hydrocele was successful and he
had made a full recovery. Since the end of 1998 he had another
problem, he couldn't eat solid food without getting nauseas and
vomiting. This was managed by feeding him liquid or finely ground
food instead. Last Thursday he suddenly got very ill. He became very
nauseas and also had muscle spasms which prevented him to relax and
sleep. Although he appeared to have difficulties vomiting he manage
to vomit twice, large amounts. He soon became very weak and lost
consciousness and died before I got to the vet.
The necropsy revealed a prepyloric growth which obstructed the outlet
of the stomach. Another growth was found imbedded in fat and attached
to the outside of the stomach. He also had a collection of clear
fluid in the quadrate lobe of the liver, which looked a bit like the
testicular hydrocele.
