Years back we had one named Ruffle who would have bad
asthma attacks, but was helped by Pediatric Benedryl. She
would have very noticeable breathing difficulties. We'd ask her if
she wanted her "chest-fix" and she'd gratefully take the stuff even
though she disliked it, and soon sound better and be kissy.
Ruffie didn't have many words, but she had that one down pat.

One thing that I have seen happen with some folks who are new
to ferrets is confusing ferret laughter for a breathing problem,
esp. if it happens when the ferret is playing and is active and
well. It's a faint sound so folks with any ear damage often can't
hear it but it's a soft "heh-heh-heh" noise.
