Subject: Re: Respiratory problems
Hi,
I have been going through a respiratory problem in all my guys (23 of
them) since late December. It starts off as normal cold and some of
them have in turn gotten bronchitis. I lost all four of my
insulonomic ferrets to this respiratory flu that is going on. All of
them in the month of January. While the healthier older and younger
guys seem to get through it in about a week to a week and a half.
There is alot of sneezing, coughing and wheezing that goes along with
this. I seem to just get one of my babies over it and another one
starts. Some good old TLC, duck soup and lots of pampering seems to
do the trick. If the wheezing gets bad, take them to the vet for some
antibiotics. Benadryl works good also, but tends to make them sleep
alot which in turn can cause fluid to settle in their lungs. Pick
them up and put them over your shoulder and burp them like a baby. It
really helps them get all that junk up out of their throats.
Just a note, none of my insulonomic ferrets showed any signs of the
virus, but after an autopsy on all, they showed inflammation of the
heart with fluid. It seems that their immune systems were not strong
enough to help them out. Remember the prednisone reduces the immune
system.

since, I think, January he's sneezing a lot (5 to 10 sneezes in a
role) specially when he wakes up or when he is investigating the
corners. This happens everyday. And also everyday he makes a noise
that is very strange and I can't even describe it. it's like he's
choking, a heavy breathing with his chest moving a lot.
