No, it wouldn't be a waste of time because there may be a vet willing to LEARN. That is the position we were in the early years of having ferrets in our family, and one who is willing to learn and to apply what general veterinary knowledge the person has is far better than no vet at all.

You can ease the process by going to the bookmarks and files sections at

and making the info you find there -- esp. the stuff written by vets -- available to your area's veterinarians.

Meanwhile, I am sure that you may hear of tests that folks here would have a vet do: certainly a CBC and general exam, and depending on what shows up in general exam perhaps other tests. Take along a treat to help keep the ferret's head up during blood drawing.
