Subject: Treatment for hypoglycemia/insulinoma
My 6-yr-old female, Sidney, has cardiomyopathy, adrenal
disease and insulinoma combined. Lupron did help some with the
adrenal disease but we've had trouble keeping her blood sugar
up. She's on Pediapred (0.2cc, twice daily), which is causing
quite a bit of fluid buildup in her abdomen. (I wonder if the
steroid dose aggravates the adrenal disease because of the
hormones from that tumor.) Sidney's appetite is still pretty
good but she's very lethargic. The vet listened to her heart
and lungs and they actually don't sound all that bad. She is
on digitalis (once/day), Enacard (every other day) and Lasix
(twice daily) and the regimen has been very effective.
Does anyone know of another non-surgical treatment for
hypoglycemia resulting from insulinoma? I know that Sidney
doesn't have a whole lot of time left but I want to improve
the quality of her remaining time.
