Subject: Re: simple green

The last time I came in contact with Simple Green was when I was doing
work-study work at a day care center during college, so my initial impulse
is to give a tentative yes. I'm inclined to say that, if we used it at
that day care center, then it's ok to use with the kids. What I'd do,
though, is look at the bottle. Does it claim to break down into harmless
things, like air and water? I'm currently using Shaklee's Basic-H, having
stopped using a bleach dilution after accidently shutting Rhodry in the
bathroom with the bleach bucket (still have the bleached square on my bath
mat, from where he'd left the sponge after fishing it out of the bucket,
to serve as a reminder). Shaklee claims that Basic-H does break down into
harmless substances (can't remember what, at the moment), so I'm not as
worried about the kids running off with the sponge or otherwise getting
the cleaning material in their mouths. As a result of my not worrying,
they haven't been as attracted to the cleaning spray bottle as they had
been to the bleach bucket. What does Simple Green's bottle say?

On a side note, I've found that Basic-H, unlike the bleach, also works
very well for cleaning up the mess from when the kids think the carpet is
their litter box. I don't know if Simple Green has the same vircitility,
but I enjoy being able to reach for the same bottle, no matter what the
mess they've made.

Read the label, know the product you're using, see where it can or can't
be used & if exposure to the air causes it to break down. Doing these
things should help you get the most out of your cleaning supplies, and
avoid using something that'll eventually have you calling Poison Controll
just because someone ran off with your cleaning sponge.
