Subject: [Ferret-Health-list] simple green

I personally would not use Simple Green on any animal cages. Considering the smell is strong enough that you have to work in a well ventilated area and you can actually get high off the fumes of it, I would not use it. I've known about it a lot since they use it for everything in the military and we only use it for toilets and extremely hard to clean things after removing all animals from that end of the house (also have birds that it can kill with the smell) for at least that part of the day. It's very strong stuff. I would suggest getting one of those handy little steam cleaners like the portable Eureka Enviro Steamer for cages. That's what I'm doing as well. It doesn't use any chemicals and get the water hot enough to sanitize anything. There's one similar to it at Target for about $40.

Is the cleanser called Simple Green safe for wiping down ferret cages? Thanks Marla
