Emergency

Kent and Alex,

I am sorry to hear of what you are going through. My ferret Oliver
(unfortunately now at the rainbow bridge) had this problem. Oliver had
several problems including a second adrenal probem. Kidney failure, anemia
etc, etc...

Oliver lived with these problems for another 8 wonderful months when the vet
didn't give him 3 days let alone 8 months.

Anyways, I guess you should consider yourself lucky as we were never able to
put a catheder (?) in Oliver but instead "expressed" him, that basically
means massaging his penis to get the urine out. He was also given a shot to
help with the inflamation after having to work on his penis as it would
become sore and inflammed. I am wondering if that is what is going on with
you. Beyond that, Oliver was put on a modified diet (wet and dry) for kidney
failure which is lower in protein but the other very important part of this
is I added a lot of water to make sure he wouldn't get blocked up again. You
see I feed Oliver via a syringe as he would not eat on his own. I thnk he
got spoiled being lap feed by mom and dad. Oliver was also on a antibiotic
daily to ensure no infection would crop up.

You might want to look at my posts via the fhl under Oliver or anemia or
kidney failure.

Good Luck, Deidre

blockage Emergency

My ferret Alex (8yrs old)had to be taken to the emergency clinic
Monday night because of pain and crying when trying to urinate.
The vet catharatized him through the penis and drained a lot of urine
out of him with small gritty sand. We took him home hoping that he
was cleaned out and would start on his own again. He did not.
When we took him to his vet the next day his bladder was again full
and uretha blocked with only a "puss" like substance coming from his
penis.
