Subject: Re: Behaviour question, pillow-sucking weasel!

This definitely sounds like a 'mating' behaviour to
me! We had a young male who spent much of his time
doing the same thing with his blanket and the danger
to him was getting the 'fluff' caught in his penis and
causing an infection! Of course the blankets were
removed when we realized!
I was constantly telling the vets that he must have an
adrenal tumor, although there were no other outward
signs! Finally after many months, Dizzy was operated
on and there was the tumor on the right side!
Unfortunately it was so interwined with the vena cava
that it was not all removed at that time! He was 1 1/2
years old at the time of surgery and had exhibited
that behaviour since 11 months old. He continued on,
until his behaviour caused him to have a blockage
that almost cost him his life and at this time we
decided LUPRON might help and so it did!
As I mentioned there was never any hairloss and
looking at Dizzy one would not believe that he had any
health problems! Unfortunately he developed insulinoma
in his last 2 years of life, but as long as he
remained on the Lupron his 'mating' behaviour did not
return! We did stop the Lupron at one point as being a
shelter it was questioned that we should not be using
donations for such an expensive drug! So the symtons
returned, until a very kind couple decided to pay for
Dizzy's shots!
My suggestion would be to try Melatonin at this point
as it seems to have the same, or similar, effects as
Lupron, is less costly and will tell you if indeed the
sex hormones are involved in his behaviour!---Angela.
