Subject: Re:ADV

Thank you Danee and Wolfy for your response to my post for information on
ADV. I have gone to the web sites you recommended. They were both
informative and rather frightening. I was totally unaware of this
devastating disease!
I am very concerned because one of my ferrets (Cloe) did have an episode of
total paralysis about three months ago. She recovered within a few days and
I did not take her to the vet (it was during Thanksgiving weekend and the
vet was out of town) When I spoke to him on Wednesday evening, he seemed to
think it was a toxic reaction to something she may have gotten into. Since
Cloe recovered I didn't pursue it. Now it seems I may have to test her to
make sure she does not have ADV. This particular vet is wonderful with my
animals (he did exploratory surgery on Cloe three years ago to remove an
adrenal tumor) but he admits, he doesn't know a great deal about ferrets.
Another question please...Is it common for them to have isolated episodes
that are separated with long periods of no symptoms? And is there a
correlation between adrenal disease and ADV? And at the risk of sounding
like the novice I am...can it be transmitted to cats? I have three..and they
play with the ferrets.
This is the most informative list I have found and I thank all of you for
your patience and willingness to teach ferret lovers like myself.
