Hi, Mary Ann, and everyone else,
I'm not a vet, but I've had more experience with adrenal than I care to
think about. IMHO, this sounds like normal dominance play. As you said,
he's showing who is boss. Both the Tennessee Panel and an ultrasound
are expensive options, and unless there are other adrenal symptoms (hair
loss, weight loss, serious aggressiveness) I wouldn't do either.
Besides, ultrasounds often don't show adrenal tumors even when they are
present, and the Tennessee panel can show "possible adrenal" without
being definitive either.
Having your guy examined and palpitated by an experienced ferret vet is
far less expensive, and that's what I'd do. That, and what my vet calls
"watchful waiting". If symptoms develop further, then action would be
warranted.
When in doubt I spend a few dollars and let my vet (who is anything but
money hungry) help me decide what's next.
All the best,
Caity and the notorious nine
