Go to http://www.avma.org/pubhlth/rabcont.asp and print out a copy of
the Compendium on Rabies Control. There may be something in there that
will help you. A healthy ferret only neds to be confined for 10 days
after a bite, but your ferret isn't healthy and a ferret who shows
symptoms of rabies can be euthanized and it's head sent off for testing.
Your vet's helper is safe anyway. The compendium says that ferrets die
before they begin to shed the virus in their saliva.
