Subject: Re: Questions on taking care of sick ferret Update
Thank you for all the responses.
I just got back from the vet. They don't know just yet what the ear problem
is, but he thinks it may be a respiratory infection. While he was doing the
physical exam the doctor noticed a hard lump on Nosmo's side. They did
x-rays and Nosmo has a tumor on his spleen. The doctor recommends they
remove it right away because it's on his side and they are afraid if he falls
that it could rupture. I left him there with them and scheduled the surgery
for tomorrow morning, on the basis that I could come up with $782(a rough
estimate) by morning. Well, it turns out I don't think I will. What do
others do in this situation? I asked the Dr. if putting him through that was
worth it considering he's 7 years old. And the Dr. says he is in perfect
condition other than this.
I would like to know what anyone else would do in my situation?
B.T.W. There were additional things that had to be done and that's why
Georges adrenalectomy actually cost $3300. He first started having symptoms
when he struggled to urinate. I never had the slight bit of problems with my
ferrets in the 4 years I've had them so I took him to the emergency room
which cost $1300. Then the actual surgery cost about 1250 and then a few days
after the surgery I came home from work to find him in a coma like state.
That trip to the emergency room cost 800.
Thanks
