Pediapred is a liquid for of prednisone manufactured for young
children. Because it is in liquid form, and has a fruit flavor, many
people find it is an easier form of pred to administer to ferrets.
Dosage is based on the ferret's body weight, and should be determined
by your vet. Prednisone is a perscription drug, and should not be
given unless your ferret has been seen by a vet. Your vet will
probably do a fasting glucose (blood) test first, to determine that
your ferret actually has insulinoma.
Chicken, turkey and lamb baby food can be a good source of protein,
and can help in treating insulinoma. A diet high in protein and fat,
and low in sugars will help your ferrets body regulate blood sugar
amounts more effectively. Feeding a ferret small amounts of baby
food (meats) several times a day is best. This should not be the
only source of food, but in addition to the ferret's regular kibble.
Food should be available to the ferret at all times.
Check the bookmarks section of this site, as well as the files
section. You will find some good articles there on insulinoma.
