Steve and I have found that with some ferrets it is possible to
show them how to remove it with their own paws and they will
take care of it on their own regularly. We've only had one cut
her
mouth with her claws while doing it.

This has happened to my first ferret several times. It happens to
just him, none of the other seven. He has learned to come running to
me because he knows I'll fix it.
