Karin, It may be useful for you to let your vet know that mast cells
tumors in ferrets do not normally pose the danger of malignancy
or of other associated problems that are found dogs. What you
describe may not be a mast cell tumor but it might be, and some
vets who are not used to ferrets panic when the pathology
comes back with that result. So when that result comes in it's not
unusual for ferret-people to have to reassure vets who aren't
used to ferrets.

If you go to the search engine, the files and the bookmarks at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferret-Health-list
you will find further help and some will include posts or articles
on skin growths.

The only way to know is removal and then pathology, preferably
done by a ferret-knowledgeable veterinary pathologist.
