First, find yourself a good hepa filter portabale filter. You don't
want to use an ozone producing type with asthma -- BAD idea.
There are many types of excellent hepa filter air cleaners and
your allergist likely will stock their brochures, and those will be
excellent for you. Personally, we have Environaire for me and
they are an incredible help.
Go to your vet or a local pet shop and look into the Allerpet line of
products. If you bathe them too often the skin oil output can even
increase to make up for dried skin, so try using the allerpet
spays with fewer washings of the ferrets but more washings of
the bedding. Meanwhile, take into account that you may be
reacting to something other than the ferrets but associated with
them: litter, shampoo, etc. Neither Steve nor I can deal with the
stove pellets so many use because they grow molds too often,
but it would have been easy to confuse this with a reaction to the
ferrets. (Not saying that you aren't allergic to the ferrets because
you may be, but hoping that they are not the trigger.)
One other quick thing: some people react to whole males but not to other ferrets, so if any are whole males consider neutering. (My hubby who also reacts to cats badly is among those who react that way, and I have heard it from others.)
