There is a condition that is commonly called "foot rot" which is
actually an infestation of sarcoptes, or sarcoptic mange mites. They are
particularily fond of getting right along the base of the nail. Very
often a scraping of the nail will fail to find the mites. Dr. Purcell
suggest treating with ivermectin (0.2 to 0.4 mg/kg SC) and repeat every
14 days until resolved.
