Subject: Staph/ ferret connection

Hi there!
Two weeks ago,my husband Jerry suddenly developed a tennis ball sized
elbow with flu like symptoms. We immediately hit the ER....
They grew a culture then put a port in his arm and had us return daily
for a bag of Keflex. We did this for 10 days.He is still on this
antibiotic orally.
All the DRs told us BECAUSE there was no "opening" it was not able to
spread. However my Moms' Convalescent Center wants him no where around.
We will never know where he contracted it.I just would like to know if
this info is true.
Are our ferrets indeed safe? Could he of contacted it thru them? I have
tried to keep them apart as much as possible but his elbow is now
starting to crust up and peel.We see the DR. again Thurs morning at
11am.
Can ferrets get staph? Do they carry it like humans?
Any info appreciated as i have not seen this discussed...
Love & Thanks
Tara
