Subject: Staph/ferrets question

There is much controversy over this product,
it is not FDA approved as an antibacterial product,
and an overdose does have side effects-

Some food for thought, it can't just kill the bad bacteria,
or fungus, but must also knock out all bacteria, we as
living creatures have certain bacteria and small parasites
that live on our skin and in us ( I know-yuck!) that
are necessary. We have a symbiotic relationship with them,
they help digest food, and these "good" bacteria probably help
keep out the "bad" ones, or overgrowth of one kind.

I am leary of antibacterial products, because it is good for our
immune system to have to ward off certain things, if we
lived in a bubble and never were exposed to anything we
would probably die from the first cold we caught.
Now, there are those with immune defeciencies that can't
be exposed, and these people are exceptions.

I would look at the use of collodial silver with skepticism,
it is most likely it actually does nothing, it is almost
inert in the way it is sold, and at the doses used probably
has no real effect, but for those that believe and are
sold on it, as long as you see no ill effects I will leave you
to your own decisions.

Many burn centers are turning away from the use of
Silvadene- it is silver sulfadiazine and is not collodial silver,
but I guess in a way similar, although it also has the
sulfonamide in it and has antibacterial properties,
and aids in the healing time of burns. Current practices
are leaning towards more saline wound cleaning, and
bacitracin type ointments when needed.
We are always learning.
