Subject: Re: back trauma

For back trauma our vet instructed us to give steroids to reduce
inflammation immediately.

We've had two with back trauma - Spike who fell from a second story window
when he was 2 yrs old and who is 7-8 now and Swiffer who suffered a broken
pelvis sometime in his life.

Spike's xrays showed calcium build up and arthritis around the two discs
that were damaged. He is in pain but 1/8 of a baby aspirin 3 times a day
helps to control the pain. He also gets 2 drops of Arthrisoothe in his
recipe twice a day. His pain is considerably reduced. Spike is showing
signs of adrenal and I'm unsure at this point if we will do surgery. He
is currently on Lupron but I wonder if the affected adrenal isn't causing
some problems with the back.

Swiffer's xray also showed calcium build up around his brake. Swiffer was
unable to urinate on his own so he his bladded needed to be expressed
several times a day. He could not walk on his back legs at all and drug
himself around the house. Swiffer did relatively well until a few months
after his adrenal surgery.

In answer to your question, whether or not your little one will recover
completely depends on the extent of the injury and the promptness of
treatment. But there's hope.

Healing hugs. tle
